You Don’t Have To Drive Over The Road To Find CDL A Jobs

If you have your Class A Commercial Driver's License, CDL A, and do not want a truck driver job driving over the road, you can do numerous other things. Some jobs are in the trucking industry, while others are not. But the beauty of having your CDL A is that you never have to worry about unemployment if you really want a job. Here are a few opportunities that will keep you working but off the road.

Local Or Regional Drivers

If you dream of sleeping in your bed every night and not having to eat multiple meals on the road, consider applying for a local or regional run with a company. Many trucking companies offer truck driver jobs that never have to leave the state.

Some of these companies pull freight from point A to point B, while others may pull cargo from shipping ports. Still, others may make deliveries within the same company from one manufacturing plant to another.

Delivery Driver

Every store, restaurant, and numerous companies depend on regular deliveries to remain in business. To secure these deliveries, their vendors must use delivery drivers. Delivery drivers typically run a pre-scheduled route to drop off or pick up items at one location or another.

There is a huge demand for delivery drivers, especially since the increase in at-home shopping. Many major retailers compete to get their goods delivered as quickly as possible.

The companies may list these CDL A jobs as local delivery drivers, overnight home delivery drivers, or package delivery drivers. Competition for the positions can sometimes be stiff, especially if the company offers good benefits.

Bus Driver

Do you think you would enjoy hauling people versus cargo? If so, there is a demand for bus drivers who hold their CDL A. There are available jobs for local city drivers, as well as for commercial drivers.

Just know if you accept a commercial job, you may find yourself on the road for the length of any contracted trips. But the fun part is you will not be on the road alone. On bus trips, you will have people with you.

Limo Driver Or Chauffer

If people are your thing, consider taking a job as a chauffeur or limousine driver. Getting behind the wheel of these long-stretch vehicles can be just as much fun as climbing behind the wheel of a big rig. If you are lucky, you may get to drive a famous person or two.
